Williams hails Latifi for recent performances – “He’s been pushing George very hard”

Williams has hailed Nicholas Latifi for his recent performances, saying that he has been very consistent for weeks.

George Russell is the main driver at Williams, and has been exceptional. Mr. Saturday, as he is popularly called, will be leaving the team for his big move to Mercedes at the end of the season.

His teammate Latifi is a driver who is massively underrated. His talent is finally shining through, as the last few races have seen him make Q2s, show good pace and perform much better can expected.

Williams hailed Latifi for his recent performances, saying that he has been good enough to give Russell a run for his money.

As quoted by Race Fans, Williams’ Head of Vehicle Performance Dave Robson said, “There’s little substitute for experience. He’s clearly benefiting from that.

“He’s got a good group of people around him and they’ve really started to gel and work really well together, which has probably take a little bit of time as it always would.

“And actually, this car now is so much better than it was 12 months ago, that gives him an opportunity, I think.”

His time will come

Latifi is only in his second season in F1, but has shown enough and more to be retained by Williams next season. He does not beat Russell all the time, but Robson assured that he compares well to the Englishman.

“He’s been extremely good for the last six, seven, eight races,” he continued. “He’s been strong and he’s been pushing George very hard.”

“Every weekend there’s been something different (that happens to him), that’s really just been a little bit unfortunate.

“So he hasn’t been able to bring it all together yet and show what he really can do relative to George. But I think that is only a matter of time,” he concluded.
