Zverev makes surprising Djokovic claim – “Beating him has made me feel invincible”

Alexander Zverev made a surprising Novak Djokovic claim, saying that taking wins against him has been a major confidence boost.

Zverev has been one of the best players of 2021 alongside Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev. With all three of them gunning for the Serbian’s World No. 1 ranking, it will be an exciting scrap in 2022.

The Teutonic avenged his loss to Djokovic at the US Open semi-finals by beating him at the ATP Finals. The qualitative leap he took this calendar year has been incredibly promising, something he agreed with and credited Nole for.

Zverev made a surprising Djokovic claim, saying that beating his 2021 rival has given him all the confidence in the world.

“In the last six months it has been Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and I who have dominated and I believe that we will follow that trend throughout the following season,” he said, as quoted by Tennis World USA.

“I have gained a lot of confidence with what I have achieved this season, the greatest improvement I have made was mentally.

“I feel much more relaxed on the track and willing to show everyone what I am capable of. Beating Djokovic in Tokyo and Turin has made me feel invincible.”

All to play for

“I reached objectives when things were worse. If at the end of the day you do not believe in yourself, who will?” he said.

“There are two things I haven’t achieved yet. Win Grand Slam and become world number one. I hope all this is already happening in Australia.”

2022’s three-way battle will be fantastic to see, and Zverev will be waiting to pick up the pieces and maximise every opportunity.
