Fernando Alonso pins blame on McLaren for Hamilton fallout

Fernando Alonso is a two-time world champion who has rejoined Formula 1 after a two-year break. He is currently racing for Alpine.

As a result, he has to share the garage with Esteban Ocon.

In a recent interview, Alonso was asked about his dynamics with other drivers on the grid.

While it was assumed that considering his age, he would probably hang out with the older drivers. But that is not the case with Alonso.

What did Alonso say?

The Spaniard mentioned that it is best to stick with those with whom you spend most of your time, in this case, his teammate Ocon.

“With whom you have a relationship on a day-to-day basis, in my case, it is with your partner because you spend more time with him,” Alonso said.

“Esteban, I think he’s 24; and yet he is the one with whom I have the best relationship,” he added.

Alonso and Hamilton

Back in 2007, Alonso was teammates with Lewis Hamilton where they were driving for McLaren.

Despite few hiccups, the two had a phenomenal on-track pairing.

The two drivers finished on the same amount of points, and race wins.

While Lewis missed out on winning the championship by a small gap, he managed to outperform his teammate.

Hamilton controversy

The duo also shared some controversy when they were teammates. However, Alonso said that there is nothing bad between the two drivers.

He also added that there were problems with the team.

“Nothing happened with Hamilton. It was more with the team, with which we had our differences… But there was always respect between us. Even on the track,” he said.

He even mentioned that the two of them would go on runs on Sundays and discuss their thoughts on the team. “We always try to fight hard, but with respect,” he concluded.

Alonso and Ocon

Looking at their age, it might be difficult to imagine the two drivers hanging out together.

However, the two of them often play games together and ride their bikes.

He also added that he spends time with fellow Spanish driver Carlos Sainz

“Age doesn’t matter. It has nothing to do with it,” he added.
