After taking a two-year hiatus, Alpine driver Fernando Alonso has ventured back into the world of Formula 1 to try his luck once again.
The 2021 season did not get off to a great start for the Spaniard and thus many people ended up writing him off.
However, during the last two races, the driver who turns 40 next week has shown some amazing skill behind the wheel.
British GP
The British Grand Prix saw the Alpine driver finish P7, leaving him with crucial points for his team.
During the inaugural sprint qualifying, he managed to impress everyone with his fantastic start; starting from P11 to reach P5 in just a single lap.
Alpine boss Marcin Budkowski reckons that Alonso’s current form is a testament to him finding his feet in the sport again.
What did Marcin say?
Alonso has finally been able to perform his best of this season yet.
“It took him a few races, but he was very aware of it and worked hard with the team to rebuild confidence and performance,” Budkowski stated.
“Now he has reached that point and is getting the most out of the car,” he added.
Looking forward to 2022
Alonso has previously stated that his return to Formula 1 has been influenced by the new regulations that will be implemented in the upcoming 2022 season.
This is something that Budkowski confirmed.
“That’s not to say he won’t push as hard as he can this year, but he does see this as a year where he wants to get back to his top form, but also to work with his team and motivate them for next year,” the Alpine boss concluded.
With the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix, we can expect Alonso to impress us yet again.
