Van der Sar responds to United’s interest in head coach – “The interest was naturally going to come”

Edwin van der Sar responded to Manchester United’s interest in head coach Erik ten Hag, saying that he welcomes foreign interest.

Ten Hag is one of the most sought-after coaches in the world today. His style of play, results and youth development are all world-class. He is most remembered for leading the 2018/19 Ajax team to the Champions League semi-final against all the odds.

Every time he assembles a solid Ajax team, Europe’s finest come knocking. The greatest thing about him is that he is always able to rebuild and create the next exciting team. How he does it is anybody’s guess, but it screams world-class.

United have undergone a managerial change recently, with Ralf Rangnick taking over as interim manager until the end of the season. However, the Red Devils are still looking for a manager, and the Dutchman is on their shopping list.

Van der Sar responded to Manchester United’s interest in ten Hag, saying that it is a positive thing for Ajax.

“This means that we are doing something well,” the former United goalkeeper said.

“It’s the same with the players. When we perform well, the interest comes. If there is interest in our players or coach… we’ve all been blown away in the past.

“So be it, we have to make sure we’re ready by then, that the lists are filled in.”

Ten out of ten

Ajax is doing a stellar job in the Eredivisie and the Champions League. Ten Hag responded to rumours linking him to a job away from the Netherlands.

“I think I’m ready for it. I would be happy to take up that challenge,” he said.

“But I’m not chasing it. If it turns out that that step will never come, I will not say that my coaching career has failed.

“But I think I have sufficient competences to take on that challenge,” he concluded.
