Women’s wildcard: Formula One set to welcome female drivers

In an effort to boost female involvement, Formula 1 has introduced a plan to implement a F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard. This will lead to a female-only qualification route to the Pro Series.

This program is a part of Formula One’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) program, ‘We Race as One’.

In the entire history of F1, there has never been a female driver. The program aims to change this by introducing the ‘Woman’s Wildcard’ to encourage a more equal gender balance in the competition.

As a part of the program, women drivers will compete for the fastest lap time in early May.

The driver who manages to set the fastest time will be given a chance to take part in the Pro Exhibition. Pro Exhibition is a series of in-game assessments for Formula One E-sports teams which is used to pick competitors for their Pro Championship rosters.

The Women’s Wildcard qualifier will be broadcast on YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and Huya on 27th May.

How do you think the qualifier will pan out? Let us know in the comments below!
