George Russell net worth and earnings in 2021

George Russell is a racing driver from the United Kingdom. Along with his teammate Nicolas Latifi, he has been a tremendous contributor to the famous Williams F1 squad.

The Briton is also a Mercedes junior driver, which has earned him a berth in the 2022 Formula One season alongside Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion.

When Lewis Hamilton was forced to withdraw from the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix owing to Covid-19, he was given the opportunity to drive the Mercedes F1 car.

Russell was on the verge of a dramatic race victory when the crew botched the strategy and denied him.

Russell began his racing career in karting, as did all other drivers. He originally started participating in 2006 and hasn’t stopped since.

Overview

Russell began karting in 2006 and advanced to the cadet class by 2009, winning the MSA British and British Open titles.

He switched to the Rotax Mini Max category in 2010, winning the Super One British Championship, Formula Kart Stars British Championship and the Kartmasters British Grand Prix.

Russell debuted in a single-seater in the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps competition in 2014.

He also competed in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship in 2014 with Lanan Racing, the defending champions.

Russell moved up to Formula Three in 2015, driving for Carlin in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship. In the second race of the weekend at Silverstone, he won his first race, finishing ahead of fellow rookie Charles Leclerc and Antonio Giovinazzi.

Russell competed in the Masters of Formula 3 non-championship event at Zandvoort in September 2015.

He finished second behind teammate Antonio Giovinazzi in the main race after finishing fourth in the qualification race.

George Russel early life and career in F1

Russell began his career as a junior driver with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport in early 2017.

He was scheduled to participate in both days of the Budapest test on August 1–2, which followed the Formula One World Championship and support series races at the same circuit the weekend before.

George made his Formula One practice debut in the Brazilian Grand Prix in November of the same year, driving in the first practice session for Force India.

Following that, it was revealed that he would also drive for them in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix’s first practice session.

Russell was named as one of Force India’s Pirelli Test Drivers for the post-Spanish Grand Prix test in May 2018. At the test, he did 123 laps for the team. His first in a Formula One car built for the 2018 season.

He signed a multi-year deal with the Williams team on October 13, 2018. Russell will be partnered with Robert Kubica for the 2019 season.

Russell’s only on-track rival was Kubica in most races because the Williams FW42 lacked speed and was the slowest vehicle in the field.

Russell finished 13th in the rain-soaked German Grand Prix before being moved to 11th.

He was passed by Kubica in the last laps, and he just missed out on his first Formula One point.

George Russell’s first retirement came in the Singapore Grand Prix. When Romain Grosjean collided with him during an overtake attempt, causing Russell to crash into the wall.

Russell finished the season in 20th place overall, the only driver without a point.

Russell returned to Williams in 2020, partnering with Nicholas Latifi, a former Formula 2 driver. Due to a loss of fuel pressure, he was forced to retire from the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix.

Russell qualified 11th at the Styrian Grand Prix after a rainy qualifying session, bettering his previous best position.

Russell’s chances at points were virtually gone when he ran wide into the gravel in the early circuits. He finished 16th with both Williams drivers fighting for race pace.

Russell worked for Mercedes in the media for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

He admitted that returning to Williams for this event was a “strange feeling”.

Russell finished tenth in the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, adding two points to his total. He then qualified third in mixed conditions for the Russian Grand Prix before finishing tenth.

He will replace Valtteri Bottas and join fellow Briton Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2022.

George Russell joining the Mercedes F1

The multi-world champion team has spent the previous few months debating whether to keep incumbent Valtteri Bottas or promote their protégé Russell, who is now racing for Williams.

Bottas’ strategy became evident when he confirmed that he will join Alfa Romeo on a multi-year agreement next season. As a result, Mercedes was able to confirm Russell.

Russell, who debuted in Formula One with Williams in 2019, is having his most productive season yet. In August, the Briton took his first podium in a rain-shortened race in Belgium. He earned the name ‘Mr Saturday’ for his regularly strong qualifying results.

“It’s a special day for me personally and professionally, but also a day of mixed emotions,” said Russell.

“I’m excited and humbled to be joining Mercedes next year, which is a huge career step, but it also means I’ll be saying goodbye to my team mates and friends at Williams.

“It has been an honour working alongside every member of the team, and an honour to represent the Williams name in F1.

“Looking ahead to next season, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t absolutely buzzing. It’s a huge opportunity and one I want to grab with both hands.

“But I’m under no illusions as to the scale of the challenge; it’s going to be a steep learning curve.

“Of course, one of those new team mates is in my opinion the greatest driver of all time.

“I’ve looked up to Lewis since I was in go-karts and the opportunity to learn from someone who has become a role model both on and off track can only benefit me as a driver, a professional, and a human being.

“For now, though, I have nine more races as a Williams driver, and I want to make sure they are the best nine of my time with the team. Then, and only then, can I turn my attention to 2022,” he added as per reports on Formula1.

Potential increase of George Russel net worth in 2022

When George Russell joins Mercedes next season, he will be paid significantly more than Lewis Hamilton, whom he has branded the “best driver of all time.”

Russell’s move to the world champions was confirmed after three years at Williams. Valtteri Bottas, who is joining Alfa Romeo, will be replaced by the 23-year-old.

He is regarded as one of F1’s most promising young drivers, and he will now have the opportunity to pit himself against Hamilton.

Hamilton is only three points behind Verstappen in this year’s title race and might be an eight-time world champion by the time 2022 begins.
