George Russell sees interest from another team apart from Mercedes – “Give me a call”

George Russell is among the fastest-growing drivers on the grid. The Williams driver might not have much to show for, but his drive in Sakhir last year proved everyone wrong.

Apart from that, he has managed to qualify on a regular basis.

Therefore, it is not difficult to imagine that he has a few outfits wanting to sign him if, for some reason, he does not go to Mercedes.

One outfit that indicated its interest in him was Alpine.

Alpine approached Russell through a YouTube video

In an interesting yet fun video posted on YouTube, current team principals (and McLaren CEO Zak Brown) were asked who they would like as their third driver.

Many would say Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton without hesitation. But surprisingly, two of them answered George Russell.

Who were the two teams?

The first team, not difficult to guess, was Mercedes team boss, Toto Wolff.

But the second team was Alpine F1’s Marcin Budkowski.

“I think they are all pretty tied in for George. And so, George, if you are watching this and if Toto hasn’t come back to you yet, give me a call,” he said.

This just shows how many teams see potential in Russell.

Can Baku break Russell’s points blank?

Even though Russell has had some incredible performances in F2, his luck has been dry with Williams so far.

The only points he earned in the last two years were back in Sakhir when he drove in place of Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.

While on Saturdays, he performs well, he does not have a car of that caliber that can push him ahead.

Many might say that Russell will not make it to the top 10 this weekend. However, the beauty of Formula 1 is that nothing can be said for certain.

Baku has played host to a bunch of surprises.
