“They lost it for a while”: McLaren fortunes changed after appointment of key member

McLaren had a splendid performance during the Bahrain Grand Prix as it managed to bag P4 and P6. This made it the third most successful team after Mercedes and Red Bull.

Former F1 driver Gerhard Berge believes that it is only a matter of time that McLaren would start gathering substantial wins and results. This is considering the fact that they have the required personnel to be at the top.

In an interview with the Australian Grand Prix podcast In The Fast Lane, Berger was vocal about his opinion.

“McLaren lost it for a while, but now you can see, step by step, they are coming back. They suffered a bit with the Renault engine, but now they have the Mercedes engine and a couple of good guys with Andreas Seidl [team principal] at the top.

“He is a top German engineer of the young generation, which is very important. He is still collecting experience race by race and has a big future ahead of him.

“They are set quite well; it’s just a question of time when they are back in a winning mood.”

Daniel Ricciardo had a remarkable debut with McLaren who were ecstatic to have P6 and P7 as their grid positions for the Sunday race. He also reveals that when he was back at the pit-lane, his team was delighted with the result as he got a thumbs up during the last round of the qualification.

Ricciardo has not yet fully settled in with his car but with the passage of time he will be able to produce results. But this was a positive start nevertheless.
