Halliwell left the Spice Girls in 1998 to pursue a solo career, but she later rejoined the group when they reunited in 2007.

Halliwell launched her solo career in 1999 with the release of her debut studio album, Schizophonic, which included three number-one singles, including “Mi Chico Latino,” “Lift Me Up,” and “Bag It Up,” while the lead single, “Look at Me,” peaked at number two.

Scream If You Wanna Go Faster, her second studio album, was released in 2001; the lead single, “It’s Raining Men,” which was also used on the Bridget Jones’s Diary film soundtrack, peaked at number one in the UK and went on to become her biggest hit.

After missing in action for a few years, Halliwell announced in April 2010 that she had begun working on new music. She appeared as a guest judge on The X Factor UK’s ninth series in 2012, and the following year, she appeared as a judge on Australia’s Got Talent’s seventh series.

Author

Halliwell published her autobiography, If Only, in 1999, in which she detailed her life as a Spice Girl. The book went on to top best-seller lists, selling over a million copies in the United Kingdom alone. On April 12, 2007, Halliwell announced that she had signed a six-book deal with Macmillan Children’s Books. The books follow the exploits of Ugenia, a nine-year-old character based on Halliwell, and her friends Bronte, Rudy, and Trevor.

Princess Posh Vattoria, a caricature of Victoria Beckham, appeared in the early draft but did not make it into the book series. Halliwell claims that other characters are loosely based on Gordon Ramsay, George Michael, Marilyn Monroe, Vincent van Gogh, Wayne Rooney, and the character Justin Suarez from the TV show Ugly Betty.
