Fernando Alonso did not really have a memorable comeback to Formula 1. The Alpine driver had to end the race early at Bahrain and therefore could not collect any points. However, this weekend, he is expecting to be amongst the points.
In the past, Alonso has also raced with McLaren, Renault, and Minardi. But in 2018, he left Formula 1 before deciding to make a comeback with Alpine.
The Spanish driver is hoping for good results in Imola in the coming days. He also mentioned that he is glad to have Imola back on the Formula 1 calendar.
“I do like the Imola racetrack and I was glad to see it return to Formula 1 last year,” he explained.
“It threw up an exciting race in 2020 and I think some of the changes to the circuit since I raced here over ten years ago has improved the racing.”
Alonso also recalls an old victory he had in Europe back in 2005.
“It’s also different to be in Europe so early in the season. We usually arrive a little later in the year when the continent is going through its summertime.
“I have some good memories here particularly in 2005 when we won the race and later took the championship that year.”
