Sergio Perez did not have the start he hoped for at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Mexican faced a sudden outage in his car on the formation lap which led to him starting the race way back on the grid.
Eventually, he was able to revive his car and make his way through the pack finishing at fifth place. But he hopes for a better performance at the Emilia Romanga Grand Prix at Imola.
Perez recons that the fight with Mercedes is going to be very close this coming weekend. This will also prove how far Red Bull has come in the fight for a place at the top.
He told the media that he is looking forward to performing on a circuit outside of the one at Bahrain to see his progress.
“I think it’s going to be very tight with Mercedes and we’re going to see if the fight is circuit related,” he said.
“It will be interesting to see how we are in Imola, on a very different track to Bahrain, and see how we compare against them.
“My goal is to have a good race and I’m looking forward to the weekend. Hopefully in Imola we can come back and be in contention to fight for a podium and hopefully take the win.”
“Unlike Bahrain, qualifying is very important at Imola as you can hardly overtake there, but I like it.”
