One thing that makes sports highly interesting is the off-field banter and a good-natured competitive wager. A similar bet was made between Daniel Ricciardo and Cyril Abiteboul.
Ricciardo won the comical tattoo bet and now his former boss has to go ahead with it.
Ricciardo and Abiteboul had a deal last season that if the Australian breaks Renault’s podium drought, the latter will get inked. The tattoo will be of Ricciardo’s choice.
At the 2020 Eifel GP, Ricciardo managed to get a third place. It has been six months since that victory and we are yet to see a tattoo.
Abiteboul has revealed that the bet is still on.
“I am a man of my word and ready for any tattoo,” Abiteboul said.
The Frenchman, however, is uneasy considering the dimensions and design of the tattoo after Ricciardo revealed his plans for a honey badger theme inking.
“I still get to choose size and location! As soon as the restrictions are waived! A bet is a bet! I may just ask for a right to edit the style of the beast,” he said.
The Australian revealed why the bet was still held up.
“With Cyril, it’s basically just trying to be in the same place at the same time. I don’t want to just tell him to go and get a tattoo and send me a photo, I want to be there. I want to organize it and document it. I’ll pay for it. I’ll get mate’s rates. Pay cash,” Ricciardo explained.
It is always pleasing to see these types of bantering between sportspersons. Ricciardo is exactly the type of person F1 needs and we are glad to have him.
