“I have to say Max”: Ricciardo gives Norris a pass when asked about his fastest teammate

Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were teammates, driving for Red Bull between 2016 and 2018. The current McLaren driver was often surpassed by the Dutchman during their time together.

Currently, Ricciardo has another fast driver in his team – Lando Norris.

However, according to Ricciardo, Verstappen was much quicker than Norris.

“I have to say Max, but that’s probably based off the fact I have more experience with him,” he said.

Ricciardo and Norris have been on the same team for only two Grand Prix races. But, the Brit has managed to impress him with his performance.

“If we look at his last weekend Lando has certainly raced very well,” he said.

During the Grand Prix in Imola, Ricciardo had to face a team order to allow Norris to overtake him. This was due to the fact that Norris was a lot faster than the Australian.

Andreas Seidl was the one who gave the order to Ricciardo on the radio. This led Norris to score a podium finish.

Ricciardo would have preferred to keep his spot. But he was a team player and let Norris pass him.

“It’s not like the team were holding me back so that Lando could have that position. It was all my own fault,” he added.

The 31-year-old is not the only one who is struggling with their car. Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez are some prominent names who are not as competitive as they would like to be. There is a buffer time that a driver needs to get used to their new car and new procedures.
