“I hope he doesn’t get there soon:” Marko expects Red Bull to thrive despite missing out on pole

Sergio Perez produced a masterful performance during qualifying in Imola. This was his second qualifying for Red Bull Racing and his first Q3 for the team.

Perez managed to place himself in the top three drivers between Hamilton and Verstappen, securing P2 at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Even though the gaps between the three drivers was not much, Perez still managed to qualify.

Helmut Marko saw this as a positive sign especially after what they had to go through with Alexander Albon last year.

“The development with Perez is really incredible. We are very happy that he is already so strong in his second qualifying session for the team,” Marko said.

The Austrian advisor to Red Bull, Marko, expects Perez to be of great value even on race day, especially after adapting a different strategy to both Hamilton and Verstappen.

“Perez also starts on the softest tyre, while Max and Lewis start on the mediums. That could be a crucial advantage with this long straight,” he said.

If this strategy pays off, we can expect to see an exciting fight between the three drivers.

On a circuit where it is going to be difficult to overtake, Mercedes will surely miss Bottas who will be starting at eighth place.

“We have two cars upfront and there are some cars between us and Bottas. I hope he doesn’t get there soon, that should be an advantage for us then,” Marko said.
