“If Seb passes me, I will immediately try to get the position back”: Leclerc on mentality post Vettel exit

For two years Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel were partners at Ferrari. But now Leclerc has teamed up with Carlos Sainz while Vettel is driving for Aston Martin.

In the event that Vettel overtakes him, Sainz revealed that he would not make that a big deal and rather focus on himself.

This season, Vettel and Leclerc will race as each other’s rivals and fight to defeat one another. In the first race, Leclerc came in at sixth place while Vettel crossed the line at fifteenth.

For the next round, the drivers will race off in Imola, at the Italian Grand Prix. Vettel might want to battle it out and push the limits of his car as he tries to overtake Leclerc.

“I don’t think if that happens I’ll make moves like ah, he was my teammate and I beat him and now he’s in front of me. When I lower the visor I have no room for these thoughts.”

“I focus on myself, on the car and the commitment that awaits me. If Seb passes me, I will immediately try to take my position back. I don’t think I will have other thoughts in my mind at that moment.”

Ferrari didn’t have the best season last year as they came in the sixth place with 131 points. Sainz and Leclerc have given themselves the task of bringing the team back to the top.

Talking about Sainz, Leclerc said, “Carlos is a really strong driver and until now he has never had the right car to prove that.”

“I expect him to fight for the victories when we will have the right car,” he added.
