Inter Milan fans group Curva Nord has sent a scathing message to their former striker Romelu Lukaku after his move to Chelsea.
Lukaku joined Inter Milan from Manchester United, and became the first name on the team sheet. He had great seasons with the Serie A winners, and established himself as one of the finest strikers in the world. However, with the club facing major losses and a possibility of liquidation, they have been forced to sell. Among those players is Lukaku.
Some fans did not take kindly to Lukaku sealing a big-money move to Stamford Bridge. The ultras group called Curva Nord has smeared and damaged a banner of the Belgian outside the San Siro. On their Facebook page, they addressed the issue, sending a scathing message to Lukaku.
“Dear Romelu, we’d have expected a different kind of behaviour from you, more honest and transparent,” the post read.
“Even though we’ve protected and welcomed you as a son, like one of us, you’ve proven to be like everyone else, falling for money.
“We wish you the best, even though greed doesn’t always pay. Now we’re United in the same direction, also because otherwise the message, even for those who stay is clear. You’ve all broken our balls. Heads down and work. Inter before everyone and everything.”
Not his doing
The anger and frustration among Inter fans for losing their best player is understandable. However, it is important to note that the club is in freefall, and they are on a selling spree to receive funds. They have already let go of manager Antonio Conte, and sold highly rated right-back Achraf Hakimi.
Lukaku is just the next name on the clearance list, and he is now leaving for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. He left Milan recently, having missed their most recent friendly and training sessions.
