In an interview with NOS, Ricciardo revealed that being in the same team as Max is never an easy task.

“He’s just very good. A rare super talent. When Max became my teammate, I had to step up a gear. Before, I could allow myself to slip up in qualifying. Not with Max,” he says.

The Australian also goes on to appreciate Max’s attack-based driving style and competitive mentality.

The McLaren driver saw Verstappen join Red Bull as a young driver and make his way to the top. He believes that the Dutchman has seen tremendous growth ever since.

Ricciardo also said that he has always preferred strong teammates as they act like your biggest rival.

“I remember how furious Max was when I snatched pole position from in front of him in Mexico 2018,” he said.

“He could have been the youngest pole-sitter. The fact that he was so pissed off only made me extra happy,” he concluded.

Irrespective of this incident, things are well between the two drivers.
