After Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton’s contract negotiation took a long time to get finalised for the 2021 season, both parties have been wanting to wrap things up for the next season before the mid-season break.
The unfortunate delay seemed to have had an impact on Valtteri Bottas too, who now wants his contract to get finalized soon.
“It almost becomes a distraction”
According to Motorsport.com, Bottas said, “Honestly, it’s always better earlier. I’ve had contracts [signed] early, I’ve had contracts too late that it almost becomes a distraction.
“But to be honest, I haven’t really thought about it yet. And that’s an honest answer.
“I’m really just focusing on these races now and that moment when we start to talk it will come eventually.
“For sure about my future, yes, I think August break is normally a good deadline. But to be honest I don’t want to think about it yet. I just want to win races, that’s the only thing on my mind at the moment,” Bottas concluded.
How do Hamilton and Bottas compare?
The Finn has always finished just behind his teammate for a while now. However, he has never been able to beat the Brit till now.
Bottas has managed to score podium this entire season except at the Emilia GP when he had an unfortunate crash with George Russell which ended his race.
After four races, Bottas currently stands third in the standings with 47 points while his teammate Lewis Hamilton leads with 90 points.
The Finn also has a possibility of being replaced by George Russell which could be worrying for him.
Bottas only has this season to prove his worth to the Silver Arrows.
