Lando Norris has found himself in a good spot in the ongoing season of Formula 1. After the three races, he is currently third in the drivers’ standings.
A podium at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix undoubtedly contributed largely to his tally. As a result, the McLaren driver found himself driving on the tails of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
“I mean, I think things have gone very well for us,” he said. “I feel like I’m doing a good job myself through qualifying and putting in the laps when I need to.
“Maybe not so much at Imola or Portugal in Q3… but everything apart form that has gone very well and the race as well, on the restarts, the launches, a lot of things are going well but it’s just as easy for it to go not so well.
“I’m not getting my hopes up too much for every race. We’ll try to do what we’re doing and continue it, but it very easily could be a P6, a P7 or a P8. I’m realistic, but I’m sure we can continue what we’re doing.”
Ideally, Norris is fully capable of sustaining his strong position. He just has to try to finish before Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez as much as he can. However, he is not getting his expectations too far up.
Unfortunately for McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo is still trying to find his feet and get used to his car. This puts the entire team’s responsibility on Norris for the moment.
If Ricciardo is able to get his game on, the team can really benefit from it.
