“Just wants to do something different”: Wolff says ex-Mercedes engine head will not join Red Bull

Mercedes F1 team principal Toto Wolff has revealed that the former head of the team’s powertrains Andy Cowell will not be joining Red Bull’s latest venture.

By the end of this season, Honda will be departing from Formula 1. As a result, Red Bull purchased Honda’s IP and set up the Red Bull Powertrains company.

During the last few weeks, several members from Mercedes have joined Red Bull. One key member being Ben Hodgkinson.

However, it has now been confirmed that Andy Cowell will not be joining Red Bull.

“I talk to Andy (Cowell) regularly. He just wants to do something different, not only be known for his work in Formula 1,” Wolff told members of the media.

“Andy has exciting ideas about technology and sustainability and he also said: ‘If I wanted to continue in Formula 1, I would have stayed with Mercedes.'”

During recent weeks, the rivalry between Red Bull and Mercedes has taken a leap off-track too.

In a fight involving team personnel, one can only wait and see how this season’s subplot plays itself out.
