Kevin Durant is an American professional basketball player. He is also one of the highest-earning basketball players in the world. He currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association.
Early life
Kevin Wayne Durant was born on September 29, 1988, in Washington, DC. He has a sister named Brianna, as well as two brothers named Tony and Rayvonne.
Durant grew up playing in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball for several teams in the Maryland area, where he shared the court with future NBA players Michael Beasley, Greivis Vasquez, and Ty Lawson.
Durant had a successful college career as a member of the University of Texas at Austin’s Texas Longhorns. He averaged 25.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in college in 2006-07.
He was named the John R. Wooden Award, the Naismith College Player of the Year Award, and eight other honours and awards as the unanimous national player of the year.
Career
Durant was the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. He was named NBA Rookie of the Year in his first professional season, averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. The SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder in 2008.
Durant was chosen to play in his first NBA All-Star Game during the 2009-10 season. He went on to become the NBA’s youngest scoring champion at the time, averaging 30.1 points per game. Durant signed a five-year contract extension with the Thunder before the 2010-11 season, worth an estimated $86 million.
During the 2013-14 season, he broke Michael Jordan’s record for the most consecutive games with 25 points or more, with 41 games. With averages of 32 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game, he was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player that season.
He set the record for total points scored in an Olympic basketball tournament as a member of Team USA at the 2012 Olympics, averaging 19.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He also represented Team USA at the 2016 Olympics, where they won the gold medal.
