Khabib Nurmagomedov enjoys new role as coach of highly talented upcoming UFC stars

Khabib Nurmagomedov seemed to be enjoying his new role as a cornerman and coach. Nurmagomedov recently disclosed on Instagram that he is looking forward to cornering his other Dagestani fighters for their forthcoming battles in July 2021.

Khabib wrote on Instagram, tagging Islam Makhachev, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Usman Nurmagomedov, and Islam Mamedov, “July will be interesting.”

Upcoming bouts for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s wards

‘The Eagle’ is most likely alluding to the UFC Fight Night programme on July 17th, which will feature two of his colleagues. Islam Makhachev, who is anticipated to follow in Khabib Nurmagomedov’s footsteps, will meet rising lightweight contender Thiago Moises.

Makhachev is on a seven-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming via submission over Drew Dober at UFC 259. He is now rated eighth in the UFC’s lightweight category and has challenged several top-tier competitors.

Rather than a top-ranked opponent, Makhachev will face the rising Thiago Moises. Moises has won three straight fights over Alexander Hernandez, Bobby Green, and Michael Johnson.

Another fight featuring Khabib’s teammate has been scheduled for the card. Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Khabib’s cousin, will face Daniel Rodriguez in a three-round welterweight fight on July 17 at UFC Fight Night.

In 2019, Abubakar made his UFC debut, losing to David Zawada. At UFC 260, ‘Manap’ won his first promotional fight via unanimous decision over Jared Gooden.

Daniel Rodriguez recently won against veteran Mike Perry at UFC Vegas 23. Rodriguez’s win came after a disputed decision loss to Nicholas Dalby at UFC 255 in November 2020.
