Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov is a Russian professional MMA fighter of Avar descent.

He is a former undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion and a two-time Combat Sambo World Champion. With 27 wins, he presently has the longest undefeated streak in MMA. He continues to be undefeated in professional MMA.

Early life

Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov was born on September 20, 1988, in Russia’s Kizilyurtovsky District. He was the second of three children born to Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, a distinguished athlete and war veteran. He had an older brother named Mogamed, as well as a younger sister named Amina.

His father began training him in combat sambo when he was 17 years old. His family eventually relocated to Kiev, Ukraine, where he continued his education.

Career

Khabib debuted in MMA in 2008. Within a month, he had four wins, three of which came in a single day. He won the inaugural Atrium Cup competition championship in Moscow the following month. He won 12 matches in the three years that followed, including his M-1 Global debut in 2009.

Due to injuries and ill health, he had to cancel many matches between September 2014 and 2015. In 2016, he made a comeback at the UFC, winning against newcomer Darrell Horcher.

In 2017, he was slated to fight Tony Ferguson for the Interim Lightweight Championship, but he became ill owing to issues from the weight-cutting regimen and the round was eventually cancelled.

On December 30, 2017, Nurmagomedov and Edson Barboza fought at UFC 219 in Moscow, Russia. Nurmagomedov dominated his opponent throughout the bout, winning by unanimous decision and earning his first Performance of the Night bonus.

Nurmagomedov successfully defended his UFC lightweight title against Conor McGregor at UFC 229 on October 6, 2018, by defeating McGregor by submission in the fourth round.
