Lando Norris furious over Daniel Ricciardo ‘wave’ accusation – “Did it to freaking everyone”

McLaren driver Lando Norris criticized Formula 1 fans for creating “absolute crap” about his gesture towards teammate Daniel Ricciardo during the race.

Norris had waved towards Ricciardo after he lapped him before going on to secure a podium win at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Brit earned his second podium of the season after he secured P3 behind Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz.

What actually happened?

During the race, Ricciardo was shown the blue flags to allow Norris to overtake him. The Brit waved towards the Australian before he lapped him.

F1 fans assumed that this was his way of taunting Ricciardo.

Norris has however been very vocal about the mess that is being created because of this misunderstanding.

He claims that he was just being polite and thanking his teammate to let him through.

What did Norris say?

Norris explained: “All right, so I see so many of you make up absolute crap and nonsense as usual.

“By the way, any time someone lets me pass for a blue flag, anyone, if they get out of the way properly and they should, I put my hand up and say thanks, all right?”

Norris goes on to explain that he waved at every backmarker including Haas duo Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher.

The furious Brit added: “I did it to freaking everyone; Mazepin, Schumacher, Danny …

“Whoever I passed and they got out of the way, I put my hand up and say thanks.

“So, don’t just notice one when I passed Danny and think I’m doing something that is not right.

“Let me just get that point across because I see a lot of stories that people make up,” he concluded.

Norris in the top three

Lando Norris, who recently signed an $11 million a year contract with McLaren, stands third in the driver standings up until now.

The Brit is just behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
