Lando Norris has hinted at disappointment with Daniel Ricciardo for taking time to adjust in the McLaren.
Ricciardo is having a lacklustre season so far. Having made the move from Renault to McLaren, he has yet to perform to his standards. He has also been outperformed every race by Norris when the two have finished.
Norris is having the season of his life, sitting P3 in the WDC standings. The Australian sits 63 points behind his teammate. Norris has revealed his surprise at Ricciardo’s form, and is confused as to how he is not adapting quicker.
As reported by PlanetF1, Norris said, “I know it’s not easy, but I didn’t have an experience like his (Ricciardo) one, switching cars one time, again and again. So I can’t judge.
“It’s interesting noticing as other drivers like Carlos (Sainz) at Ferrari are already back on the pace, Fernando (Alonso) as well with Alpine. I thought Daniel too would have been back on the pace at this time, but he’s not far,” the British driver concluded.
Placing bets
Norris’ statements were echoed by F1 commentator Ben Edwards. He expressed his disappointment with how Ricciardo’s season has gone, and backed him to deliver in the second half.
“I feel disappointed for Daniel,” Edwards said.
“He’s a real talent, he’s superb, and he has a great approach to Formula 1, so to see what he’s going through is disappointing. I think he can still come back, I really do. Actually, the next few races after this summer break will be very interesting. We’re going back to early conventional circuits… I think he will deliver there.
“I think this summer break might help him, he just needs to rejig a bit, I know he’s got the talent to be able to deliver and I really believe he can do it,” Edwards concluded.
