The current Formula 1 season has seen an intense battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
But the interesting fact is that their team bosses have begun to express their rivalries for each other off the track.
There has been a major war of words going on between Christian Horner and Toto Wolff. This comes after the latter threatened to launch a protest against Red Bull’s use of flexi-wings.
Wolff suggests that the use of such wings has been giving Red Bull an added aero advantage.
Horner goes on to say that Mercedes too have been enjoying the benefits of these flexible wings placed in the front of their car.
So much is the debate between the two that Wolff called Horner a ‘windbag’.
Take the battle to the ring
While the war between the two bosses is intense, Hamilton ended up suggesting that the two should take their fight to the ring.
“We should get them in the ring. They’re the same weight, just difference in height,” he said at a press conference in Baku.
Verstappen was in favor of the idea.
“I mean I’m all for a ring anyway. Even in Formula 1, instead of penalties,” he said.
We like to do our talking on the track: Hamilton
Hamilton mentioned that the type of rivalry between Wolff and Horner is very natural in a sport like F1.
“Yeah, I think we’ve naturally got… naturally, they’re the two top leaders of the teams. And they’ve both contributed hugely to the success of both teams and great leaders,” he said.
“And of course, they’re head-to-head because we are head-to-head in this tight battle.
“We generally just like to do our talking on the track. So, we’re just keeping our heads down.”
Baku holds the key
After a difficult time in Monaco, Hamilton managed to secure a P2 in Baku. Verstappen managed a P3, just behind his rival.
As a result, we can expect the two drivers to end up in a drag race for turn 1, with Max likely to be the more aggressive of the two.
Considering that Verstappen is leading the charts in points, we can even expect Hamilton to show off his aggressive side.
We can only wait and see whether the two drivers ignite a much uglier side of their rivalry or they continue to keep their noses clean.
