Racecar drivers have nerves of steel as they seem to love and enjoy the adrenaline rush that comes with insanely high speeds. They are not even afraid to put their lives at risk, smashing their cars into the walls or hitting other vehicles while racing to the finish line. And because of their fearlessness, the whole world is attracted to them.

One of the best F1 drivers the world has ever had is Lewis Hamilton.

Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton, or simply Lewis Hamilton, is a British racing driver born in 1985. He has previously driven for McLaren from 2007 to 2012, and now, he competes in Formula One for Mercedes.

As a Formula One racing driver, he has won seven World Drivers’ Championship titles. He also has records for the most pole positions, podium finishes, and other wins.

Humble Start with McLaren

Born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, Hamilton participated in the McLaren young driver program back in 1998. Nine years later, he raced for McLaren in Formula One. He made history as the first and only black driver to join the series. He finished as a runner-up to Kimi Raikkonen during that season, setting numerous records.

In the following season, this British driver claimed his maiden title in a dramatic feat where he made a crucial overtake on the last lap. He then became the then-youngest F1 World Champion in history.

Steady Wins with Mercedes

Four years later, Hamilton signed with Mercedes.

In 2014, there were changes to the F1 regulations mandating participants to use turbo-hybrid engines. However, these changes seemed to have put Hamilton to an advantage as it marked the beginning of his continuous racing success.

Since then, he has won six more driving titles. He received consecutive titles in 2014 and 2015 in an intense competition with teammate Nico Rosberg. After Rosberg retired, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel became a rival of Hamilton.

Outside the Race Circuit

Lewis Hamilton is said to have helped in improving Formula One’s reach due to his high-profile lifestyle, social and environmental causes, and influences in music and fashion. He has even become an advocate, supporting activism to put an end to racism and pushing for more diversity in motorsport.

Sir Lewis Hamilton continues his fight for more diversity in racing, a cause he has been championing ever since. He is really hoping to see progress in Formula One, and he is positive that in a decade or so, people from all backgrounds will consider F1 as a sport where they are welcome.

Lewis Hamilton Driving Style

This seven-time World Drivers’ Champion is known for his aggressive driving style. Paddy Lowe, former engineering director of McLaren, detailed how Hamilton is comfortable with various rear instability levels that many race drivers can’t tolerate.

Hamilton is also praised for his flexibility and ability to quickly adjust to car set-up variances and track conditions.

While with Mercedes, Hamilton has also received constant praise for his consistency. Ross Brawn even wrote that Hamilton hardly puts a foot wrong. As a result, he wins not only the races he should have but also others where his rivals were stronger.

Hamilton’s driving style was said to be primarily influenced by Ayrton Senna. It is because he watched Senna a lot when he was young, and he told himself that it was how he wanted to drive if given a chance. From there, his driving style was developed.

Lewis Hamilton’s Lifestyle

Hamilton is one of the most marketed F1 drivers in history, signing various sponsorship deals with global brands like Mercedes-Benz, L’Oreal, Bose, Police, Puma, Monster Energy, and Sonny. He even collaborated with clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger.

In 2020, this Stevenage-born driver secured the top 40 spot on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list. He also placed 13th on the list of the world’s highest-paid athletes.

The following year, he landed 8th place on the latter list, having an estimated net worth of £60.69 million.
