Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has revealed that the possibility of Max Verstappen moving to Mercedes is long dead.

The former Williams driver also suggested that Lewis Hamilton‘s contract extension has sealed the deal on Max not moving to the Silver Arrows.

Just until a few weeks ago, there were rumors that Max Verstappen will be signing for Mercedes if Hamilton calls it quits.

But the Brit signing a two-year extension meant that Max will continue with Red Bull.

What did Ralf say?

According to Ralf Schumacher, Lewis was the only alternative for Mercedes.

“For me, that means above all that Max canceled at Mercedes,” said Schumacher.

“I think there was hope at Mercedes that with Max in the cockpit, we would completely realign ourselves for the future. She died now, and then, in my opinion, Lewis was the only alternative.

“Red Bull now has a great time ahead of them with Max Verstappen,“ he added.

Hamilton wants to beat Michael Schumacher’s record

Ralf also suggested that Hamilton really loves Formula 1 and that he is looking to beat the record of Michael Schumacher.

“Lewis loves Formula 1. I don’t see a partner at his side in his life, except maybe for the dog. If you live life like him, you have no need to change anything,” he said.

“Especially when you win so much. From my point of view, I can say that it is also a strange feeling when you, as a racing driver, suddenly wake up in the morning and no longer have this well-planned year.

“I also believe that Lewis really wants to break my brother’s world championship record with seven titles,” Ralf concluded.

With the fight for the title at its peak this season, we can only wait and see if Lewis is able to beat Schumacher’s record.
