Lewis Hamilton put Valtteri Bottas in his place: Helmut Marko

Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko recently spoke about a number of topics in an interview. He also shared opinions on Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

He compared the Mercedes duo to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. According to Marko, Hamilton and Verstappen can be counted as the protagonists of the championship.

He said, “Bottas isn’t as strong in the decisive moment after all, and he also has weaker days, as you saw in Imola. And at race pace, as we saw in Portugal, Hamilton again put Bottas in his place.

“The bottom line is that there are only two drivers who are in contention for the championship.”

Marko just can’t help himself

While talking about the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers, Marko revealed that Perez is slowly finding his feet. There has been a lot of improvement in the Mexican’s standing considering he is merely two-tenths away from Verstappen.

But, he and Bottas are still a long way off their respective teammates.

All that the drivers can do at the moment is act like the rear gunners. The more consistent finisher will be able to contribute more to his team.

Next weekend, the race will be taking place in the principality of Monaco. While Hamilton has a great track record on the street circuit, Bottas is not too bad himself.

However, the Red Bull drivers will be on the hunt as they cannot allow Mercedes to go too far ahead.
