Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton faced yet another defeat at the hands of Red Bull driver Max Verstappen at the Austrian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion was visibly disappointed for being unable to bring in crucial points for the Brackley-based squad.
Initially, it seemed that the Brit would go on to secure a P3 finish. But McLaren driver Lando Norris overtook him towards the end of the race.
As a result, Hamilton had to settle for P4 with just twelve points in his bag.
Hamilton upset over P4
Just after the Brit crossed the chequered flag, he took over the team radio to apologize for his performance.
His race engineer informed him about his P4 finish along with there being damage on his car.
“Sorry to lose you guys those points,” Hamilton replied. “How many points did we lose?”
The engineer replied, “So that’s a fourteen-point hit. Definitely not what we need!”
Verstappen extends his lead
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen grabbed another easy victory at the Red Bull Ring and managed to earn 25 points plus 1 for the fastest lap.
This places him well above the others in the driver’s standings with 182 points in his kitty.
Hamilton on the other hand just has 150.
In the constructor’s standings, Red Bull is leading with 286 points while Mercedes is second with 242.
Both Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas need to give in their maximum if they want Mercedes in the lead again.
The next race will be in Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, Hamilton’s home circuit.
