Real Madrid star defender Raphael Varane has reportedly decided not to renew his contract at the club following 2022, Spanish outlet Marca has claimed. The report goes on to state that the club will look to cash in on its prized asset in the summer as a result.
Manchester United has previously been rumoured to be interested in Varane. Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Varane is high on the wish-list of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils have reportedly already made approaches to sign the Frenchman in the past, but this may be the team’s golden opportunity.
“Varane has been monitored in the past,” a source close to Solskjaer told Mundo Deportivo.
Real Madrid has usually been firm on its stance of not entertaining offers for Varane. However, with his contract soon to run out and if reports regarding his intentions are true, the Spanish giants will look to cash in.
Given the pressure on Real Madrid as a result of Atletico’s lead in the La Liga, Florentino Perez may be forced into finding a solution to this problem.
Given the length of his contract, Manchester United may get Varane for a much cheaper price than anticipated. Experts believe Varane should be valued above $70 million, but it is believed that $50 million will be enough to convince Real Madrid to seal the deal.
