“Max is definitely ahead”: Marko backs Verstappen over Hamilton in terms of control and speed

Max Verstappen is one of the top drivers currently on the F1 grid. With his spectacular performance in Imola, he is starting to have a real go against Hamilton.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko seems to think that Verstappen possesses qualities that can put him in the same light as Hamilton, a seven-time world champion.

Verstappen showed his true skill on the rain-soaked track of Imola. The Dutchman came in first place and got a win for the Milton Keynes-based outfit.

In an interview, Marko said, “When it comes to vehicle control and speed, Max is definitely ahead. But Lewis has more experience. That is still in balance at the moment.

“Max learns something new with every race. He is still young in years of life. Mistakes are more likely to happen, even if they become fewer and fewer.”

After failing to win in Bahrain, Verstappen redeemed himself on the Imola track. After starting the race in P3, the 23-year-old immediately overtook Sergio Perez and pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton to claim the first spot. Beating Hamilton gave Red Bull its first victory this season.

After the race in Italy, Verstappen said, “The key, I think, is to have that good launch, which was also a bit of a surprise to me. After last year where we always struggled in the wet.

“I think over the winter and beginning of the year we definitely made some improvements to that and today that was very good.”

With Mercedes winning the race in Bahrain, Red Bull appears to be putting on a tough fight.
