Red Bull, despite being one of the top teams on the grid has not won either the drivers’ or constructors’ championships in recent years.
Previously, the team won four consecutive title doubles between 2010-13. But, the streak was ended by Mercedes in 2014 and they have not looked back since.
Lewis Hamilton began his title defence with victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix. But with 22 races left, Verstappen is on the hunt for the first world championship of his career.
Tost, who oversaw Verstappen, wants him to become a champion this season.
“I’d be really happy if it was Max Verstappen and if there was a change in the world championship,” he told SPEEDWEEK.com.
“Red Bull Racing-Honda really has a chance this time.”
With 23 races set for the 2021 campaign, many would expect a lot of pressure to be felt by the crew. But, Tost says the increased strain does not bother him. In fact, he is happy with any number of races.
“I don’t mind the races, they could be even more,” he said.
“It all depends on how competitive the car is. If we are good, everything is really fun, I don’t feel tired. What’s bad is when nothing goes on, then it becomes more tiring for everyone.
“It is disappointing that it is not possible for the whole team to visit the race track, it means that an important motivation and experience factor is missing because there are no spectators,” Tost said.
“But, the racing team makes a special effort in the Ferrari Autodrom.”
The next round is to be held at Imola which will be the first home race for AlphaTauri. Do you think Verstappen will make a win this season? Let us know in the comments below!
