“Maybe I shouldn’t say it”: Verstappen Sr offers ‘proof’ Max is better than Lewis through simple example

Max Verstappen has had a phenomenal start to the current 2021 F1 season after accumulating 80 points in just four races. However, he is still behind Lewis Hamilton by 14 points.

This is surprising as many seem to think that the Red Bull‘s RB16B is the fastest car on the grid this season.

Considering Max is such an amazing driver, his father Jos Verstappen seems to think that his son is the reason why the car looks so fast.

In an interview with De Telegraaf, he said, “Maybe I shouldn’t say it, but: Thanks to Max, the car looks better than it really is.”

‘Max can outperform Hamilton’

Jos not only thinks that Max is making the car look good, he also believes that his son has the ability to outperform Lewis Hamilton with the help of the same car.

“We hope that Red Bull gives him the material to really show it,” he said.

Even though these claims seem far-fetched, the former Benetton driver backs it up with facts.

The biggest point that is in favor of Max is the fact that he has always been better than his teammates. Jos uses the examples of Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, and Sergio Perez to prove his point.

“These are not nose drills, but somehow Max does an outstanding job,” he claims.

‘Max demands a lot more from his tyres’

After Max’s tyres wore out at the Spanish GP, Hamilton managed to catch up to him. This raised questions on Max’s ability to manage his tyres.

“Max has to drive more at the limit to keep up with them – and of course he demands a lot more from the tyres,” Jos said.

Another issue that Max has faced is track limits. He would have been able to take pole in Portimao and also score a win in Bahrain had he not gone over the white line.

“Sometimes he just wants more than what is in the car. But that’s not a mistake. You can see that Max just does everything he can,” Jos concludes.

We can only hope that Red Bull provides him the correct upgrades to help boost his performance.
