During his career, he was considered to be the undisputed world champion in the heavyweight category. He still holds the record of being the youngest boxer ever to win a title. He won his heavyweight title at the age of 20.

Childhood

Mike Tyson was born on 30 June, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York. The fighter had two siblings. However, one of them died of a heart attack at the age of 24.

Even though Tyson’s biological father isPurcell Tyson, he considered Jimmy Kirkpatrick to be his father. Kirkpatrick was a native of North Carolina and the best baseball players in his neighbourhood.

Kirkpatrick later went to abandon Tyson’s family. Tyson also lost his mother at the age of 16. These incidents left him in the hands of his boxing manager, Cus D’Amato.

Mike Tyson made his first professional debut at the age of 18. He had, however, fought as an amateur in the Junior Olympics.

After winning 26 of his first 28 fights by KO or TKO, he soon rose to become the champion. People felt Tyson would be unbeatable for a long time. That is, until Buster Douglas appeared. Douglas’ mother died before the fight after telling everyone that her son would beat Tyson.

Douglas managed to go through more rounds with Tyson than anyone else had, and once there, he saw that Tyson began to lose energy and endurance rapidly after the 5th or 6th round.
