Nathan Donald Diaz is an American professional mixed martial artist. He is currently signed under Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Early life
Nate Diaz was born in Stockton, California on April 16, 1985. He started his MMA training at Tokay High School along with his brother.
His elder brother Nick Diaz is a former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion and WEC Welterweight Champion.
Nate began his career with WEC World Extreme Cagefighting. He has also participated in Strikeforce and Pancrase.
UFC Career
Nate Diaz made his UFC debut in 2006. He holds the record for the second and fourth-highest UFC pay-per-view buy rates, with 1.6 million signing up for the rematch at UFC 202 and another 1.3 million for their first fight at UFC 196.
Nate also has the second most post-fight bonus awards in the UFC (15), tied with Joe Lauzon. He is also tied for the most Fight Of The Night bonuses with Frankie Edgar (8).
After taking a hiatus in 2016, Diaz returned to fight against Anthony Pettis in the welterweight division at UFC 24. He secured a win against Pettis and challenged Jorge Masvidal for the BMF title at UFC 244. However, Diaz was defeated by Masvidal via technical knockout. He has not fought since 2019.
