Williams has been struggling for a while now, mainly due to a lack of funding. However, when the Williams family decided to let go of the team ownership due to financial reasons, Dorilton Capital took control with hopes of bringing the outfit back on top.
According to the new CEO, Jost Capito, funding is not enough for a team which needs to have determination as well.
The Grove-based outfit has been showing signs of improvement this season by managing to make it to Q2. Unfortunately, they are yet to score points.
As of now, Williams is in ninth place in the constructor’s championship after managing zero points. However, with drivers such as George Russell and Nicholas Latifi, they hope to remain motivated.
Investment is not the only pre-requisite
In an interview with Auto, Motor und Sport, Capito mentioned, “The new owners are investing heavily. You are interested in long-term success. This gives you the opportunity to rebuild the team.
“First and foremost, you need motivation to get the talents back to work and give them the opportunity to develop. Investing alone is not enough. You also have to get the investment to work.
“That is my primary task. That the investments are also used efficiently.”
Mercedes might steal Russell
Mercedes has had a close eye on their junior driver George Russell for a while. After his incredible performance at Sakir GP last season, when he replaced Hamilton, the outfit has kept him under observation.
According to Capito, if the outfit puts up an offer for Russell, there is a big chance that the driver will go with them.
He said, “When Mercedes makes an offer to a driver, it’s difficult for anyone to keep him. No matter which driver, in which team.”
By the end of 2021, both Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas run out of their contracts.
As a result, there is a major possibility that Russell will end up with the Silver Arrows for the 2022 season.
For the time being, the Brit is focused on driving for Williams and trying to take them to the next level. His aim, for now, is to score points for the outfit.
