In addition to his troubles, he has also been handed a lackluster car which restricts him from unlocking his potential.
His teammate, Mick Schumacher, has also clocked better qualifying and race finish average than him.
As a result, Mazepin is often found at the back of the pack in all races so far.
Fortunately for him, luck was on his side at the British Grand Prix as he overtook his teammate and finished ahead of him the second time this season.
‘My best overtaking manoeuvre’
The Russian driver was proud of his performance and spoke highly of his driving during the race on Sunday afternoon.
“It’s difficult to overtake on this track,” Mazepin stated during the official Haas press conference. “I used a lot of my tires. But then it was probably my best overtaking maneuver in the last three years.”
Schumacher, on the other hand, was content with his performance and wants to keep improving.
“I have to see what I could have done better now. What we can do better as a team in order not to lose touch with the others. That’s a little more important to me at the moment than trying to avoid driving around in the back,” said the German.
Mazepin confirmed for Haas 2022
Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner has recently disclosed that Mick Schumacher’s future with Haas has not been sealed yet. However, Mazepin will continue with the outfit.
Nikita Mazepin’s father, Dmitry Mazepin’s company, which is the title sponsor for Haas, will continue with the team. This confirms the Russian driver’s place for 2022.
“It’s a three-party contract because he also has one at Ferrari. So there are still a few things that have to be sorted out,” said Steiner.
“Mick can’t say it has been signed yet, but there is an agreement. However, since there are three parties, it is more complicated than if it was just a contract between the two of us,” he concluded.
