Of the front-runners, Red Bull appears to be in the best position ahead of the 2021 Formula 1 season.
While the team has undoubtedly strengthened its driver line-up after procuring the signing of Sergio Perez, it also faced no issues during pre-season testing in Bahrain.
Some driver partnerships foster acrimonious relationships. In light of that, it is imperative to get a better understanding of how Perez and Max Verstappen have gotten along ahead of the campaign.
In the latest episode of the ‘Beyond the Grid’ podcast, Perez answered some of these questions.
“He is just a very chill guy. There are no political things going around him, you know. He just enjoys driving, and we have had good fun in these couple of times we have spent together,” Perez said.
Both Verstappen and Perez have been involved in a lot of media commitments.
“We have done a lot of stuff, actually; it’s been unstoppable! We have spent like two days together, doing stuff for media. So far it’s been enjoyable. And Max is just a young guy who likes life and gets on with driving.”
Verstappen has a prolific record of finishing ahead of every teammate he has had in the sport. This includes the likes of Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, Daniel Ricciardo, and Carlos Sainz.
However, Perez has something in greater abundance compared to any of these names- experience.
However, he does not believe this should be a point of concern for Verstappen.
“I don’t see it like that. Why should he be worried about me, or why should I be worried about him? I think we both come here to do our best possible job,” Perez said.
There are two sides to the coin and Verstappen will do well to gain as much as he can from Perez as they go along in the season.
