“Our race wasn’t with him”: Ferrari boss Binotto happy to see Leclerc giving Bottas food for thought

As compared to 2020, Ferrari has been giving a stellar performance this season. The Italian team had to encounter a bunch of disappointments last year, whereas this season things are quite different.

However, according to team boss Mattia Binotto, Carlo Vanzini has been highly critical of the team.

According to the Sky Italia commentator, Ferrari does not have a competition-worthy car, a fact that he has stated multiple times. The Ferrari boss does not understand this criticism at all.

“It doesn’t do honor to the team, because I think it’s a team performance,” he told Formule1.nl

“Last year we were still lapped here, so the progression is clear. But I think we have to acknowledge the team’s effort here. This is a team effort, not just from the drivers.”

According to the commentator, Charles Leclerc is ready to join Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in the fight for the world championship. But according to him, the Ferrari driver has not been given a car worthy of fighting.

An example that we saw in Barcelona was Leclerc trying to compete with Valtteri Bottas but failing.

“Charles is great in a one-on-one duel. He had a good start and kept Bottas behind him. But we knew our race was not with him,” Binotto said.

As of now, Hamilton is at the top of the world championship standings with 94 points. Verstappen is second and lags by 14 points.

Bottas, Lando Norris, and Leclerc complete the top five.
