Career overview

Twitch

Pokimane began streaming on Twitch in 2012, two years before she launched her channel. She also has a Poki ASMR channel where she uploads ASMR content. She is a well-known member of Offline TV.

Poki has been streaming on Twitch for a number of years. In 2017, she gained 450,000 Twitch followers, putting her account among the top 100 most followed on the platform.

Poki has also been noted to stream Fortnite gameplay and commentary, which she first did as part of a sponsorship. Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, organised a pro-am event at the 2018 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). The event pitted streamers against mainstream celebrities in Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode; Poki was initially paired with rapper Desiigner, but was replaced shortly before the event by Josh Hart.

Twitch, one of the platform’s most popular streamers, has directly partnered with Poki. Twitch selected her as one of 15 ambassadors for the 2018 TwitchCon event in July 2018. A TwitchCon Ambassador is one of Twitch’s partners who headlines the event’s programming.

Twitch also scheduled Poki as a partner for their Twitch Creator Camp, a series of broadcasts and articles designed to help content creators build successful channels, later that month. Poki is the 14th most followed user on Twitch, according to Social Blade, with over 2.7 million followers as of the 18th of January 2019.

Anys signed a multi-year exclusivity agreement with Twitch in March 2020. According to Social Blade, Anys is the sixth most followed user on Twitch, with over 7.7 million followers as of May 15, 2021.

Anys collaborated with U.S. representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, as well as several other notable streamers including Disguised Toast and HasanAbi, for a session of Among Us in late October 2020 as part of a get-out-the-vote initiative for the 2020 United States presidential election.

YouTube Career

Poki has two YouTube channels, Pokimane and Poki ASMR, in addition to streaming on Twitch. The former contains excerpts from her gaming content, vlogs, and podcast. The latter is currently inactive and contains videos from a larger community of autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) channels.

Poki is also a member of “Offline TV,” a YouTube channel run by content creators. “It’s not fun being a streamer and living alone,” Poki said of the channel, “so we decided to come together in a way so we can not only keep each other company but also collab and actually do good work and content for everyone else.”

Controversies

Pokimane had a video taken down in May 2020 and questioned the sponsorship of content creator ItsAGundam for attacking her fanbase, which he referred to as “simps.”

Because of the negative backlash, the sponsor decided to drop him. This sparked a negative reaction from other notable YouTubers, who claimed it demonstrated she didn’t know how to accept criticism. Pokimane apologised in a video and announced a one-month break beginning August 6, 2020, after receiving a massive amount of backlash.

On September 10 of the same year, Pokimane returned to Twitch streaming.

As a result of her account’s rise on the platform in 2017, she was named the Best Twitch Streamer of the Year by the Shorty Awards. According to the Shorty Awards, her League of Legends gameplay and commentary streams propelled her to popularity on Twitch. Anys appeared in a League of Legends trailer announcing a new game mode.

In 2018, she was nominated for the Content Creator of the Year Game Award. Pokimane has been nominated in the Live Streamer category for the tenth annual Streamy Awards in 2020.

Pokimane appeared on two episodes of Marshmello’s “Cooking with Marshmello” and “Gaming with Marshmello,” in which they made miniature pizzas and played Forza Motorsport 7. She has her own emote in Fortnite.

In October 2019, it was announced that Anys, along with a number of other internet personalities, will appear in Shawn Levy’s film Free Guy, which is scheduled to be released on August 13, 2021.
