Ralf Schumacher speculates Mercedes might quit F1 – “McLaren will play a bigger role”

Mercedes began their works team back in 2010 after taking over Brawn GP and found themselves on a tough road to greatness.

However, due to their persistence, the Silver Arrows were able to dominate the grid from 2014 to 2020. They also claimed 7 constructor wins.

But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.

There are rumors going around that the Brackley-based squad might be quitting the grid soon. Additionally, they will stick around as an engine supplier for other teams.

Ralf suggests time is up for Mercedes

With Toto Wolff as team boss, Mercedes has seen the tenure of some incredible drivers including Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, and Nico Rosberg.

“There are rumors that the works team will quit and only want to deliver engines for Formula 1,” Ralf said.

“I, therefore, assume that McLaren will play a bigger role as a customer team in the future.

“Like Aston Martin, with whom team boss Toto Wolff is privately connected as an investor.

“A lot will change at Mercedes, including the ownership structure of the team. There are exciting times ahead of the racing team,” the German driver concluded.

Mercedes for eight titles?

Wolff & Co currently have seven consecutive titles in their bag at the moment, since 2014. So we can be sure that they are targeting their eighth win this season.

However, this season, the Silver Arrows are facing a difficult time from rivals Red Bull, who are in the lead with 289 points.

But Mercedes are just 4 points behind the outfit.

The next race is the Hungarian Grand Prix where Mercedes will try to cover the gap and regain their lead in the championship.
