Washington Wizards star Russell Westbrook has been in sensational form, putting up triple-doubles on almost a nightly basis. Wizards’ OT loss against the San Antonio Spurs ended their hot streak of 8 wins in a row, which was incidentally their longest in over 20 years.
Despite the loss, Westbrook put up monster numbers with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists. He broke the legend Wilt Chamberlain’s record of most triple-doubles in a month.
Besides being one of the best to play the game, Westbrook happens to be one of the most hated players, failing to win a championship and being labeled as a “stat padder”.
After Wizards’ loss against the Spurs, Westbrook delivered an honest statement. “The thing is that, for me, I take pride in, like I said, every single night and leaving it all on the floor.”
Westbrook, known for his aggressiveness and passion, is currently averaging a triple double with 21.8 PPG, 11 RPG and 11 APG.
“I honestly believe there is no player like myself, and if people want to take it for granted, sorry for them. But I’m pretty sure if everybody could do it, they would do it,” said Westbrook.
Westbrook is currently sitting with 175 triple-doubles to his name and is only six shy of Oscar Robertson, who holds the all-time NBA record.
“I’ll tell you that. It ain’t easy. I take a lot of pride in my preparation. I take a lot of pride in taking care of my body. I take a lot of pride in competing every night. I don’t take nights off. I don’t cheat the game.”
All Star Bradley Beal later backed up his teammate on The Jump with Kendrick Perkins, Vince Carter and Rachel Nichols.
“Everyone has this misconception of Russ… He loves his teammates. He’s all about his teammates. He’s all about team. He’s all about winning,” said Beal
