Scottie Pippen rose to prominence in the 1990s as a member of the Chicago Bulls, when he won six championships alongside Michael Jordan and Dennis Rodman. Pippen is considered the best individual defender in NBA history. He was a seven-time All-Star, winning the All-Star MVP award in 1994.
The ’90s Bulls were reintroduced to the public eye in 2020 when ESPN aired The Last Dance, a documentary miniseries on Jordan’s final season with the team.

According to Fox Business, Michael Jordan earned $33 million during the 1997-98 season, which is significantly more than Pippen’s current net worth while Pippen was paid just under $2.8 million, making him the sixth highest-paid player on the Chicago Bulls.
This was due to Pippen signing a seven-year $18 million contract with the Bulls in 1991. His agents encouraged him not to sign the contract at the time. Even the Bulls’ then-owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, claimed that during the contract discussions, he informed Pippen that it was “a longer contract than I thought was smart with him.” However, Pippen signed the contract mostly to assure the protection of his family.
Over time, Pippen became dissatisfied with the conditions of his contract, especially given how brilliantly he performed. Pippen delayed having surgery until the start of the new season in 1967 in the hopes of compelling the Bulls’ management to re-examine and renegotiate his contract. There were no new negotiations.
