Sebastian Vettel still unsure about reason for his grid penalty – “I think I was the only nice guy”

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel was handed a grid penalty for obstructing Fernando Alonso during qualifying in Austria.

The German was slapped with a three-place grid drop after he blocked Alonso during the Spaniard’s flying lap towards the end of Q2.

However, Vettel ended up impeding Alonso due to a number of cars up ahead backing off to build gaps between themselves.

‘Weird’ to get a grid penalty

Vettel revealed that him getting a penalty was ‘weird’ and claimed that he will be ‘less nice’ in the future.

“They said I did nothing wrong. So I don’t understand why I got a penalty, it’s a bit weird, no?” Vettel questioned.

“I think I was the only nice guy so [I’ll] probably be less nice,” he added.

Vettel looking forward to Silverstone

The German initially had difficulty with his Aston Martin AMR21 and had to deliver a strong performance in the latest series of races.

His best performance this season was a podium finish in Baku which got his newly re-branded team their first podium.

With 30 points, Vettel stands 10th in the Driver’s Standings while his teammate Lance Stroll has collected 14 points.

Vettel will be looking to recreate the result from Baku in the upcoming race in Silverstone.
