Sergio Perez reveals details about his alliance with Max Verstappen – “No passage in my contract”

Sergio Perez might have had a rough start to the 2021 season, but the Red Bull driver has gained a lot more confidence in his driving in recent weeks.

The Mexican took his first win back at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and scored a second podium in Le Castellet on Sunday.

With his performance seeing him jump the ranks on the driver’s standings, many still seem to think that his role in Red Bull is just to be a #2 driver to Max Verstappen.

Ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix, Perez revealed what Red Bull has confirmed to him.

Even though the Mexican scored a P3 finish in France, he let Max overtake him on Lap 36. This helped the Dutchman to take the battle to the front of the grid.

Even after two pitstops, Verstappen managed to cross the chequered flag first.

Perez has revealed that there is no clause in his contract that says he cannot challenge Max.

What did Perez say?

“Yes. There is no passage in my contract that says I can’t fight Max. The team has already shown that both sides of the garage get full support,” Perez said.

“And the more confidence the team gets and the more often Red Bull sees that we are both doing well, the more confidence we will have on both sides of the garage.”

The 31-year-old confirms that a boost in confidence will surely help the outfit perform better.

“Still have a long way to go”

Perez has managed to make quite an impression at Red Bull so far this season.

“At the moment we are working very well together and we still have a long way to go, so I just need to focus, improve myself, and then we’ll see how far we can get,” he added.

The next race will take us to the Styrian mountains where Perez will try to continue his form and will be aiming for another podium finish.
