Stephen Thompson is widely considered as one of the most technically talented strikers to ever participate in MMA.
Aside from his accomplishments in combat sports, Thompson also has a popular YouTube channel. His YouTube channel recently featured a video of him responding to a devastating head kick KO from one of his kickboxing battles.
The kickboxing battle in question took place in Chuck Norris’ World Combat League (WCL). He revealed that fight was held under American Kickboxing rules with a slightly modified rule set and a Kumite-style stage. Thompson saw that his opponent was explosive at first but soon wore himself out.
He stated, “Alright, here we go. Okay. Look at this. Fade back, blitz, fade back…Here it comes. Misses this. Alright, check out the money. Check out the money.”
In addition, Thompson stated that he competed again the same night, confronting and knocking out another opponent with the 1-2-head kick combination.
Stephen Thompson will face Gilbert Burns at UFC 264.
Thompson’s most recent bout was a unanimous decision victory over Geoff Neal in December 2020 at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Neal. He will now face former UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns on July 10, 2021, at UFC 264.
Burns’ most recent fight was a third-round TKO loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 258 in February 2021 for the UFC welterweight title. Thompson and Burns are set to square off in one of the most anticipated welterweight fights.
