“Stone Cold” Steve Austin is a retired professional wrestler, actor, and producer from the United States.
Early life
Steven James Anderson was born on December 18, 1964, in Austin, Texas. He, however, adopted his stepfather’s surname ‘Williams’ but is better known as Stone Cold Steve Austin in the ring. When he was around a year old, his parents, James and Beverly Anderson got divorced.
His mother later relocated to Edna, Texas, where she married Ken Williams in 1968. He is the eldest of four siblings, with three brothers and one sister. He attended Wharton County Junior College on a football scholarship after graduating from Edna High School. Later on, he went on to receive a full scholarship to study at the University of North Texas
Wrestling career
Austin started his wrestling at the Dallas Sportatorium, where he was coached by Chris Adams. Adams instructed him in technical movements but did not instruct him in kayfabe or business.
Tony Falk taught him about the fundamentals of wrestling. He started off using his true name. When the WCCW combined with the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA) to form the United States Wrestling Association (USWA), Dutch Mantell gave him the name Steve Austin.
The main reason for his name change was to prevent confusion with “Dr. Death” Steve Williams, a popular wrestler at the time.
Austin departed the USWA in 1990 and joined World Champion Wrestling (WCW) the following year. When his ‘nice guy’ character didn’t work, he adopted the nickname ‘Stunning Steve Austin.’ In 1991, he made his World Championship Wrestling (WCW) debut.
He formally retired from wrestling in March 2003, though he has continued to appear in wrestling programming in non-wrestling roles, such as refereeing. He appeared as the Co-General Manager and Sheriff of “Raw” from 2003 to 2004.
Acting
Austin has appeared in films such as “The Longest Yard” (2005), “The Condemned” (2007), and “The Expendables” (2010).
Personal life
Steve Austin has had four marriages. His first marriage, which lasted from 1990 to 1992, was to Kathy Burrhus. In 1992, Austin married Jeannie Clark (aka Lady Blossom). In 1999, they divorced. Stephanie and Cassidy are their two daughters. From 2000 until 2003, he was married to Debra Marshall. In 2009, he married Kristin Feres.
Real estate
Austin owns a ranch in Nevada (dubbed the Broken Skull Ranch 2.0) and a residence in Marina Del Rey, California. He shares the property with his Fourth wife Kristin. They own two properties in Marina Del Rey, one next to the other.
In 2009, he purchased his first property. In 2017, he paid $1.49 million for the house next door in an off-market transaction. He sold the Marina Del Rey property for $3.395 million in April 2021.
As per records, the wrestler is worth around $30 million as of 2021.
