Iga Swiatek has advanced to the second round of the Indian Wells Women’s Open. Swiatek, who began the competition as the second seed, has yet to drop a set.
Iga has only given away a total of 5 games in both of her encounters. The Pole exudes confidence and will be trying for her fourth WTA singles victory.
Swiatek entered the Ostrava Open as the number one seed after a strong showing at the US Open. She made it to the semi-finals of the tournament, but she couldn’t beat Maria Sakkari of Greece.
There was a special guest in the audience for her Round of 32 match against Veronika Kudermetova.
Bill Gates made a special appearance
Bill Gates, the founder and former CEO of Microsoft, attended Iga Swiatek’s second-round match in Indian Wells versus Veronika Kudermetova.
Gates has claimed numerous times that he enjoys watching tennis and has previously attended several of Roger Federer’s games. Furthermore, the millionaire philanthropist has even played tennis with Roger Federer in an exhibition match in South Africa.
Iga Swiatek reacted with a humorous tweet after learning about this.
“Well…I think I’m better in tennis than with Excel. I hope you enjoyed the match,” she wrote.

Iga Swiatek won the first round against Petra Martic and the second round against Veronika Kudermetova. Both matches ended in a straight-set victory for the Poles.
She’ll face World No. 29, Jelena Ostapenko, in the round of 16. The Latvian enjoyed an easy first-round match, but she faced Yulia Putintseva in a three-set thriller in the second round.
